Volunteer
Opportunities
There are many
ways that family members can volunteer in my classroom. The following volunteer opportunities are
available for parents and other family members. Please choose what will fit best into your busy
schedule and I will get back to you with a time that works into our classroom
schedule.
Classroom
volunteers: These volunteers come into the classroom and
work with students on a weekly basis at a specific time of day. It is very important that parents are able to
be consistent about this commitment because I depend on that help when I plan
activities. Parents must also go through
the South Portland School Department volunteer training program and background check
first before they may begin working with students.
At-home
volunteers: These volunteers help make or put together
student materials at home. For example, a parent might organize and set-up
student portfolios in September so that those portfolios are ready for the
students to start submitting work.
Room parent: This parent
helps to organize special student activities such as celebrations that require
food or field trips.
Class
Photographer: This parent
usually has a special interest in photography and is also able to come with us
on field trips. An ability to upload
photos to our classroom website for other parents to view is also helpful.
Field trip
chaperones: Usually I need at least three parent chaperones to
accompany the class on field trips.
Chaperones are assigned and responsible for a group of students. Students are not allowed to go anywhere
without their chaperone. Siblings are
not able to accompany our class on field trips because of safety issues.
